As Jesus hung on the cross, being crucified next to Him was a man who was likely a lifelong criminal.
Facing death and eternity, this criminal had the audacity to ask Jesus for forgiveness, mercy and to be given a place in paradise after he died. To the surprise and disgust of the rigid religious leaders gathered around the cross, Jesus granted the man’s request. “Today, you will be with me in paradise,” He promised. Grace is unfair. It is totally undeserved. Religious people hate it. Grace doesn’t make sense.
All of which makes it so beautiful. The same grace that Jesus extended to that criminal on the cross, He offers to you.
